Managing Your Own Unsubscribe Process

By default, Postmark automatically manages unsubscribes for all Broadcast Message Streams. Each broadcast email includes a built-in unsubscribe link, and Postmark automatically handles suppression when recipients unsubscribe.

If you prefer to manage unsubscribes through your own system, you can request to enable the “Manage unsubscribes on your own” option for your Broadcast Stream.

🤔 What Does “Managing Your Own Unsubscribe Process” Mean?

When you choose to manage unsubscribes yourself:

  • Postmark will not automatically include or manage unsubscribe links.

  • You will need to add your own unsubscribe link in your email templates.

  • You are responsible for handling unsubscribe requests and suppressions in your own system.

This option is ideal if you already have a custom preference center, CRM workflow, or external system for managing contact opt-outs.

🧩 How to Enable This Setting

This feature must first be activated by the Postmark Support team. Once it’s enabled for your account, you can turn it on per Broadcast Stream.

Step 1: Contact Support

Reach out to Postmark Support and request that we enable the option to manage unsubscribes on your own.
Our team will toggle this setting in your account.

Step 2: Enable It in Your Broadcast Stream

Once we’ve activated the feature for you:

  1. Log in to Postmark and go to your Broadcast Message Stream.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Scroll to Subscription Management.

  4. Click Manage unsubscribes on your own.

💡 Note: This must be enabled individually for each Broadcast Stream you plan to manage manually.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Once enabled, Postmark will no longer add unsubscribe links automatically to your broadcast messages.

  • You’ll need to ensure your unsubscribe link is clearly visible and functional to comply with anti-spam and email regulations (such as CAN-SPAM and GDPR).

  • You are responsible for managing and honoring all unsubscribe requests from recipients.
