Why is my credit card declined?

Sometimes, when we try to charge the credit card on file, the card provider returns an error. Unfortunately, card issuers don’t share specific details with us about why a charge failed.


Step 1. Check with your card provider

Reach out to your bank or card provider to ask why the payment to PostmarkApp.com was declined. They’ll be able to review the transaction and ensure future charges are approved.


Step 2. Try adding a new card

You can also add a new payment method directly from your Postmark account.

To update your card:

  1. Go to Account → Billing details.

  2. Select Use a new credit card.

  3. Enter your new card details and click Save billing info.


Step 3. Retry the payment

Once your payment method is updated, you can retry the charge from your account.

If a payment is outstanding, you’ll see a red banner at the top of your dashboard with a link to the Invoice page.

  1. Click the link in the banner.

  2. Review your payment method.

  3. Click Retry payment.


If the payment still doesn’t go through after these steps, contact your card provider again for more details, or reach out to Postmark Support — we’ll be happy to help verify things on our end.
