Why choose Postmark over SendGrid?

Save yourself the hassle of tracking down lost emails. Choose Postmark to enjoy great deliverability standard and a helping hand whenever you need one.

Exceptional deliverability for everyone

With SendGrid you'll need to "boost deliverability with a dedicated IP" and pay them more. At Postmark, great deliverability isn't an up-charge. We don't just claim great deliverability. We share live delivery data so you can judge for yourself.

  • Gmail

  • Apple

  • Hotmail

  • AOL

  • Yahoo

Time to Inbox data updated every 5 minutes

With most providers, when deliverability issues arise, they suggest that paying more for a dedicated IP address will fix the problems. We believe that's an abdication of responsibility to ensure your emails reach customers every time. It’s our job to provide you with great deliverability with or without dedicated IP addresses.

Whether you send thousands of emails or millions of emails, you’ll see the same quality of deliverability across our entire service. You'll be hard-pressed to find a provider more willing to stand by the quality of their shared IPs than Postmark. If or when the time comes that a dedicated IP address makes sense, we'll set you up on one, but we won't charge extra for it.

Great support at no extra cost

With SendGrid you'll need to pay extra for a upgraded plan with "prioritized support" for "premier" customers. At Postmark, we give everyone great support. There's no extra charge for premium support.

Customer Happiness Rating
  • 😃 Great (94%)
  • 🙂 Okay (4%)
  • 😔 Not Good (2%)

Customer feedback gathered through Help Scout over the past 60 days.

There’s no prioritized support with Postmark. You can use email, live chat (during business hours), call us, or even schedule time. You'll usually hear back in a couple of hours. If you’re having delivery problems, we won't recommend upgrading to a dedicated IP address. We’ll dive in and help you get to the bottom of things.

We also have comprehensive developer documentation and a centralized support center packed full of resources to keep you going when our support team is enjoying some well-earned downtime with their families.

We’re here to help!

Take a moment to meet our customer success team, or give us a call on 1-855-286-7373 to discuss switching to Postmark.

Unrivaled troubleshooting capabilities

When it's time for troubleshooting, nobody logs and retains more helpful details about the event history and content of messages than Postmark.

Search, filter, and view 45 days of detailed message activity from the activity feed.

While SendGrid provides 7 days of message event history, Postmark provides a full 45 days of both message events and full content rendering to all accounts. If you need to maintain more than SendGrid's 7 days of history, they recommend using their webhook and doing it yourself, and even then, you'll only have events. You won't have any details about the message content. With Postmark, you'll never again have to wonder exactly what happened to an email when a customer emails support.

Postmark offers a full set of pre-built and exhaustively tested transactional email templates to help you get started. For each of these templates, we've also written extensive guides about best practices for configuration, usability, engagement, copywriting, and more.

Whether you need more templates or just want to custom-build your own set of templates, we've built and open-sourced MailMason, a complete toolset to streamline building and updating a set of consistent transactional emails. It makes it easier build your transactional emails by enabling you to use partials, automatically inline your CSS (or SCSS), test emails in Litmus, automatically generate text equivalents, and much more.

Separate your mail streams with servers

Organize your mail streams by environment, domain, client, or anything really.

Postmark Servers
Postmark Servers

With SendGrid, all of your messages get lumped together in one stream making it difficult to search, filter, and troubleshoot. With Postmark, you can organize and separate those mail streams. This makes searching and filtering your activity stream easier and faster when troubleshooting. It also gives you the ability to manage permissions and API usage on a more granular level.

We care about our customers in the EU

Unlike SendGrid, we comply with the EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield Frameworks with respect to the transfer of personal data from the EEA or Switzerland to our servers which are located In the US.

When you use our services you entrust us with your valuable information. We have made it a priority to protect your data and to provide you with choices about controlling it. We understand that there are particular concerns from companies in the EU about how we use and protect your data, so we put together a dedicated page as a guide to answer some of the most common questions you may have.

We have several programs and plans in place to comply with EU-specific regulations. This includes current compliance with Privacy Shield, and we’re taking all of the necessary steps to become GDPR compliant.

For outgoing transactional mail I strongly recommend Postmark. Had bad experience @ Mailgun and SendGrid with delivery.

...I've been with Postmark for a few months. Their system is definitely better than SendGrid and SparkPost...two services I tried before moving on to Postmark.

I’ve used SendGrid, Mandrill and Postmark for transactional email in production. Amazing how much better Postmark is than everyone else.

We use Postmark and are very happy with it. Switched from SendGrid due to security problems, dodgy UI, and not storing email content.

Postmark vs. SendGrid

Postmark provides everything you’ll need for sending application emails, processing inbound email, and tracking user engagement.

Postmark doesn't allow sending of bulk marketing emails. On one hand, this is how we maintain the best deliverability in the industry. On the other hand, if you absolutely must send your marketing and transactional emails through the same provider, Postmark doesn't offer more of the marketing-oriented features of SendGrid.

On the surface, SendGrid's support looks better, but based on what we've heard from customers, it's not much use if support is available 24x7 if they do a poor job helping when you really need it.

What would it take to switch to Postmark?

We’ve put together a comprehensive guide that covers everything you need to know about switching from SendGrid to Postmark.

How much does Postmark cost?

The big difference for Postmark is each email you send uses a Postmark credit. You buy credits when you need them and they don’t expire.

Credits Price/1,000 Min. Cost
1,000+ $1.50 $1.50
200,000+ $1.25 Save 17% $250
500,000+ $1.00 Save 33% $500
1,000,000+ $0.75 Save 50% $750
2,000,000+ $0.50 Save 66% $1,000
5,000,000+ $0.25 Save 83% $1,250

Why do we bill with credits?

Because we believe you should only pay for what you use.

You’re never left with the hassle and expense of switching between monthly plans when your volume fluctuates. Postmark scales alongside you, and rewards your success with larger discounts as your volume increases.

What happens when credits run out?

We’ll send you a series of emails when your credits drop below 15% of your last purchase so you know it’s time top-up. If you have auto-renewal enabled, we’ll automatically top up your credits when your balance drops to 10%. If you run out of credits, we’ll stop accepting API requests from your app until you top-up your account.

How do the discounts work?

The more credits you buy in a single purchase, the greater the discount you get. Our rates range from $1.50 per 1,000 credits to $0.25 per 1,000 credits. If you pre-purchase in larger quantities, we can even offer larger discounts.

Do you offer high volume pricing?

Yes! Give Marek a call at 1-855-286-7373 or drop him an email to talk more about our pricing.
