Understanding your Postmark Invoice
Your monthly invoice provides a clear breakdown of your subscription costs, additional usage, and any applied adjustments. Understanding these line items helps you manage your account budget and ensures you are only paying for the resources your team actually uses.
Where to find your invoices
Invoices are generated at the end of each monthly billing cycle. You can view, print, or download a PDF version of any past receipt directly from your account.
Log in to your Postmark account.
Navigate to Account in the top navigation bar.
Select the Billing tab.
Scroll down to the Invoice History section to see a list of all your past payments.
Common invoice line items
Postmark invoices are designed to be transparent. Here is what the primary sections of your bill represent:
Monthly Plan
This is the base subscription fee for your selected plan (e.g., the Basic 10k plan at $15/month). This charge is billed in advance for the upcoming month of service. It grants you a set allocation of emails that you can send across all your servers and streams.
Overage Charges
If you exceed the number of emails included in your monthly plan, you are charged an overage rate for the additional volume.
Calculation: Overages are typically calculated at a rate per 1,000 emails (for example, $1.80 per 1k on the Basic plan).
Timing: Unlike your base plan, overage charges are billed in arrears. This means you will see the overage for last month’s usage on your current month’s invoice.
Add-on Services
If you have enabled additional features, they will appear as separate line items:
Dedicated IPs: Billed at a flat monthly rate ($50/month) for those with high-volume sending needs.
Custom Data Retention: If you have opted to extend your message history beyond the standard 45 days, the monthly fee for this storage will appear here.
Credits and Adjustments
Any promotional credits, such as the Bootstrapped Credit or Friends & Family referrals, will be listed as a deduction. If you have a credit balance on your account, Postmark will automatically apply it toward your total before charging your saved payment method.
Helpful Billing Tips
No Rollover: Unused emails from your monthly allocation do not roll over to the next month. Each billing cycle starts your email count back at zero.
Prorated Upgrades: If you upgrade your plan in the middle of a billing cycle, you will be moved to the higher tier immediately. Your next invoice will include a prorated charge for the remaining days of that cycle at the new rate.
Billing Notifications: You can add additional email addresses (like your accounting department) to receive copies of every invoice under Account > Billing details.
