Sender Signatures — Why Did I Receive an Email from Postmark?

If you received an email from Postmark asking you to verify a sender signature, you might be wondering why we’re contacting you. This guide explains what’s happening and how to confirm whether the request is legitimate.

💡 Why You’re Receiving This Email

You’re getting this message because someone is using Postmark to send email on behalf of your domain (for example, @yourcompany.com).

Before they can send through Postmark, we require proof that they’re authorized to use that address or domain. This is a standard part of our authentication process to help prevent spoofing and unauthorized use.

In most cases, the request comes from:

  • A company you partner with (for example, a software vendor or service provider)

  • An internal developer or marketing team member setting up Postmark for your organization

🔍 How to Verify Who Requested It

If you’re unsure who initiated the request, you can verify which account your domain is associated with by checking internally or asking your Postmark contact.

✉️ How to Respond

Once you confirm the request is valid, you can approve the sender signature directly from the verification email we sent. If you’re not sure, you can reach out to the requester to confirm before approving.

Here’s the message we typically send when clarifying with customers:

It looks like a company called [COMPANY NAME] is using Postmark (an email service provider) to send transactional emails on behalf of your company.

They haven’t been able to start sending yet because they need your approval.

Is [COMPANY NAME] a company you work with, and are you familiar with them?

If you confirm that the sender is legitimate, you can safely approve the request.

🧭 What Is a Sender Signature?

A Sender Signature in Postmark is a verified email address or domain that confirms you have permission to send from it. Every account must have at least one verified signature or domain before sending email.
