Servers FAQ

What are servers?

Think of Servers as folders that help you organize your email in Postmark. ( “Why didn’t you call them folders, then?” Yeah, we really should have. But now they’re called Servers, and that term is all over our API, and changing it would be… complicated. Sorry, friends.)

  • Set up a Server for each client or project, depending on your needs.
  • Each Server provides high-level email performance stats.
  • You can create as many Servers as you need. There’s no limit.

In the example below, servers are used to separate sending across three different restaurants. Pizza and doughnuts shouldn't mix! Or should they...?!

You can create and manage servers using our /servers API endpoint. And you can give your account users access to all or just specific servers when editing their permission settings

How do I pin a server to the top of the servers list?

Click the pin icon next to the name of the server you want to pin to have it pinned to the top of your servers list. Multiple servers can be pinned so that your most commonly used servers are easily accessible.

Why is my server greyed out?

If a server has not yet been used or has not been used in the last 30 days, it will appear transparent. Once activity occurs in one of the streams in a server again, it will no longer be transparent.

How are the servers ordered?

Servers are ordered alphabetically by default. Use pins to push your commonly accessed servers to the top of the list.

Click the Create server button to generate a new server.

Why are my bounce or spam complaint percentages orange?

Postmark requires that you keep your bounce rate below 10% and spam complaint rate below 0.1%. If the server’s bounce or spam complaint rate nears the limit, it will appear orange. You will want to take a look at the stream’s activity in the server to see why the rates are elevated and take steps to reduce the amount of bounces and spam complaints being generated.

Why are my bounce or spam complaint percentages red?

Postmark requires that you keep your bounce rate below 10% and spam complaint rate below 0.1%. If the server’s bounce or spam complaint rate exceeds the limit, it will appear red. You will want to take a look at the stream’s activity in the server to see why the rates are elevated and take steps to reduce the amount of bounces and spam complaints being generated to avoid having your server's sending suspended.
